Decision Making
Leaders make decisions every day based on their past training, education and experience. For the most part the decision maker believes that the decision he or she made is the best given the set of circumstances. In reality, the decision maker often fails to consider the unintentional consequences associated with the decision. In this session participants will be afforded the opportunity to use a variety of decision-making tools. Guided practical exercises will aid in developing better decision-making skills and the ability foresee potential issues before they execute the decision.
Ethics
In the popular movie, Remember the Titans, the story centers on trying to create a cohesive football team among teenage boys from both the white and black communities. In one scene, “during an opportunity to get to know more about each other,” one from the team Captains (Julius) confronts the other Captain (Gary) concerning his failure to discipline a player from his own race. Julius ends the dialog by telling Gary that “Attitude reflects Leadership.” Ethical behavior is a component of leadership, and a failure to possess the right attitude about ethics can degrade the supervisor’s effectiveness with his/her employees.
What are the characteristics of an ethical role model? They’re numerous, especially when you consider that the characteristics of an ethical role model are similar to those of a leader.
Workplace Violence
This presentation is designed to assist organization leadership in determining their current level of preparedness to deal effectively with a potential Violence in the Workplace case. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI), nearly two million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence each year. Unfortunately, many more cases go unreported. Research has identified factors that may increase the risk of violence for some workers at certain worksites. Such factors include working with volatile, unstable people, working alone or in isolated areas may also contribute to the potential for violence. Among those with higher-risk are workers who are public service workers, customer service personnel, law enforcement authorities, and those who work alone or in small groups.
